     Vera May Figg was born on Wednesday, 16 August 1893 at Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan.1 She was listed as the daughter of David H. Figg (given age 45) on the 1900 Census recorded 12 June 1900 at Sebewa Township, Ionia County, Michigan.2
     She and her brother Voight traveled by horse and buggy from their home in Sunfield, to high school in Lake Odessa (about 18 to 20 miles). She played on the women’s basketball
team in high school.3
     At age 19, Vera May Figg married William Cornell McCartney, age 20, son of William Henry McCartney and May Eva Cornell, on Saturday, 1 March 1913 Sebewa Township, Ionia County, Michigan.4 Vera McCartney (given age 26) was listed as the wife of Wm. C. McCartney (given age 27) on the 1920 Census recorded 1 June 1920 at 3698 Cherry Lawn Avenue, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.5 Vera May McCartney was listed in the obituary of Ida Figg on 19 August 1925, in the Lake Odessa Wave, published at Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan, as a surviving daughter.6 Vera M. McCartney (given age 35) was listed as the wife of William C. McCartney (given age 36) on the 1930 Census recorded 2 April 1930 at Sixth Avenue, Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan.7
     Her husband, William, died on 15 March 1957 in the Hollywood Florida Hospital, located at Hollywood, Broward County, Florida, at age 64, leaving Vera May as a widow. He and his wife had been vacationing in Florida during the past four weeks.8,3,9
     Vera May died on 20 August 1983 Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan, at age 90.6,1,3
     Vera's obituary appeared on 22 August 1983, in the Grand Rapids Press, published at Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. As listed in the obituary, Vera was survived by, her sons, Charles Hale McCartney, Roger Williams McCartney and Robert Cornell McCartney, her daughter, Frances Louise Long, her sisters-in-law, Edrie Lucille McCartney and Grace May Gilson.6
     Vera's obituary appeared , in the Michigan Christian Advocate, published at Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan. As listed in the obituary, Vera was survived by.6

     Charles Hale McCartney began military service on 2 April 1942 at Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan.6 He served in the military. Served in WWII with the 96th Infantry Division, Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on Leyte and Okinawa Island from 20 October 1944 to 25 May 1945.3,1
     At age 34, Charles Hale McCartney married Evelyn Helen Chase, age 27 on Monday, 31 May 1948 Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan.1 Charles Hale McCartney was listed in the obituary of Vera M. McCartney (given age 90) on 22 August 1983, in the Grand Rapids Press, published at Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, as a surviving son.7
     At the time of death of his mother in 1983, Charles resided Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a B-25 pilot on Leyte Island, in the Philippines during World War II, and later in Japan as part of the occupation force. Note that the Army Air Corps was the predecessor to the US Air Force.
     At age 26, Robert Cornell McCartney married Sally Mae Kuhn, age 22, daughter of Elmer Allyn Kuhn and Helen Gertrude Chidley, on Saturday, 16 June 1951 at Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan.4,2
     Robert Cornell McCartney relocated at Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina, in 1960.2 He was listed in the obituary of Vera M. McCartney (given age 90) on 22 August 1983, in the Grand Rapids Press, published at Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, as a surviving son.5

     The 1920 US Census enumerated him as Robert B. Smith (given age 71), the head of household at 721 Pinson Street, Flint, Genesee County, Michigan, on 22 January 1920. Also living in the household were his wife, Lydia A. Smith (given age 63) .7
