     Herbert Fred Sands was born on Tuesday, 11 July 1871 at Pentwater, Oceana County, Michigan.1 He was listed as the son of Wm. B. O. Sands (given age 41) on the 1880 Census recorded 7 June 1880 Pentwater, Oceana County, Michigan.2
     At age 25, Herbert F. Sands (given age 25) married Nina L. DeLong (given age 19), age 19, daughter of Hon. Nelson DeLong and Jenny Lind McCartney, on Wednesday, 16 December 1896 at Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan.3,4
     The 1900 US Census enumerated him as Herbert Sands (given age 28), the head of household Pentwater, Oceana County, Michigan, on 4 June 1900. Also living in the household was his wife, Nina L. Sands (given age 23), his son, Robert N. Sands (given age 3 months), his daughter, Thyra E. Sands (given age 2), his sister-in-law, Mable Leack (given age 14), his mother, Caroline R. Sands (given age 56), his mother-in-law, Ida A. DeLong (given age 39) . Herbert was employed as a Lumberman.5
     The 1910 US Census enumerated him as Hubert F. Sands (given age 38), the head of household at 7th Street, Pentwater, Oceana County, Michigan, on 21 April 1910. Also living in the household were his wife, Nina L. Sands (given age 33), his son, Robert N. Sands (given age 10), his daughters, Thyra E. Sands (given age 12) and Barbara J. Sands (given age 6) . Hubert was a Farmer.6
     Herbert Fred died on 26 April 1940 at Bremen Township, Cook County, Illinois, at age 68.7
