     At age 21, Sarah Clark married James Mathers, age 24, son of James Mathers and Margaret (?), on Thursday, 29 November 1821 at Seneca County, Ohio. The wedding ceremony was conducted by Justice David Smith Esq.²
     Mr. [Wililam] Clark was from Cayuga County, New York. His daughter (Sarah) became the wife of James Mathers, which was the first marriage in the county. The two have since removed to California. The ceremony was performed by David Smith, Esq., first justice of the county. Mr. Smith was at that time a resident of Fort Seneca - now Pleasant - Township, and has since deceased.⁴
