     Samuel Arnold Sherman was born on Thursday, 9 May 1822 at Exeter, Washington County, Rhode Island.²
     At age 20, Samuel Arnold Sherman married Lucy Ann Mitchell on Tuesday, 5 July 1842 at Woonsocket, Providence County, Rhode Island.²
     The 1850 US Census enumerated him as Arnold Sherman (given age 28), the head of household at Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, on 30 August 1850. Lucy A. Sherman (given age 30), Moelven Sherman (given age 6), Emma Sherman (given age 4) and Harriet Sherman (given age 2) were listed as household members. Arnold was employed as an Overseer in a Card Room.³
     The 1860 US Census enumerated him as Arnold Sherman (given age 38), the head of household Grafton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, on 23 July 1860. Lucy A. Sherman (given age 40), Melvin Sherman (given age 16), Emma Sherman (given age 14), Harriet Sherman (given age 11), Palmer Sherman (given age 8) and Margeretta Sherman (given age 2) were listed as household members. Arnold was employed as an Overseer in a Card Room.⁴
     The 1870 US Census enumerated him as Arnold Sherman (given age 48), the head of household at Plainfield, Windham County, Connecticut, on 20 June 1870. Lucy A. Sherman (given age 50), Palmer C. Sherman (given age 17) and Marietta Sherman (given age 12) were listed as household members. Arnold worked in a Cotton Mill.⁵
     The 1880 US Census enumerated him as Samuel A. Sherman (given age 58), the head of household at Mabel Street, Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut, on 12 June 1880. Also living in the household were his wife, Lucy A. Sherman (given age 60), his daughter, May E. Sherman (given age 22) . Samuel was employed as a Wheel Wright.⁶
     Samuel Arnold Sherman applied for a surviving father's military pension on 3 May 1897 at Connecticut.⁷
     The 1900 US Census enumerated him as Arnold Sherman (given age 78), the head of household at Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut, on 16 June 1900. Also living in the household was, his daughter, Hattie L. Gardiner (given age 51).⁸
     The 1910 US Census enumerated him as Arnold Sherman (given age 87), the head of household at East Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut, on 25 April 1910. Also living in the household were, his daughter, Harriet Sherman (given age 61), his son-in-law, Frank Gardiner (given age 64) .⁹
     Samuel Arnold died on 26 August 1912 at age 90.¹⁰ He was buried at Windham County, Connecticut.¹⁰

Sherman (given age 50) was listed as a household member living with Arnold Sherman (given age 48) on the 1870 Census on 20 June 1870 at Plainfield, Windham County, Connecticut.⁴ Lucy A. Sherman (given age 60) was listed as the wife of Samuel A. Sherman (given age 58) on the 1880 Census recorded 12 June 1880 at Mabel Street, Killingly, Windham County, Connecticut.⁵

     Malvin Sherman (given age 21) began military service on 2 September 1864 at Cortland County, New York. He enlisted in Company F, 185th Infantry Regiment New York on 25 Sep 1864.⁴
     Malvin died on 29 March 1865 at Quaker Road, Virginia, at age 21. He was killed in the Civil War, serving in Company F, 185th Infantry Regiment New York on 29 Mar 1865 at Quaker Road, VA. He was buried at Windham County, Connecticut. He was killed at Quaker Roads, Viirginia serving with Company F, 185th Regiment, New York Volunteers.

     Harriet Sherman married Frank Gardiner say 1867. Hattie L. Gardiner (given age 51) was listed as the daughter of Arnold Sherman (given age 78) on the 1900 Census recorded 16 June 1900 at Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut.⁴ Harriet Sherman (given age 61) was listed as the daughter of Arnold Sherman (given age 87) on the 1910 Census recorded 25 April 1910 at East Brooklyn, Windham County, Connecticut.⁵
