She received her Masters degree from Columbia University in New York City. She was a teacher in elementary school in Lake Odessa for a time.7 She was listed as the daughter of William H. McCartney (given age 56) on the 1920 Census recorded 2 January 1920 Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan.8 Alice J. McCartney (given age 36) was listed as the daughter of William H. McCartney (given age 67) on the 1930 Census recorded 3 April 1930 Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan.9
She was employed in the office of Dr. J.P. Parsons in Detroit for 25 years before moving to Lansing, MI.7
At the time of her death in 1975, Alice resided Lake Odessa, Ionia County, Michigan.
Alice Julia died on 1 January 1975 at Provincial House, East Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, at age 81. She never married.7,10,11

At her birth, Grace was not given a name. She was called "Baby' for the first three years of her life. At that time her parents allowed her to choose her own name...which she chose "Grace."
