     Ward Bishop McCartney Sr. was born on Saturday, 30 May 1896 at Valley City, Barnes County, North Dakota.1,2,3,4 He was listed as the son of Edwin McCartenay (given age 37) on the 1900 Census recorded 7 June 1900 at Mandan, Morton County, North Dakota.5 Ward McCartney (given age 13) was listed as the son of J. E. McCartney (given age 48) on the 1910 Census recorded 15 April 1910 at 1002 Cemetery Street, Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana.6 Ward Bishop McCartney Sr. registered for the civilian draft for WW I on 5 June 1917 at 1127 Edwardsburg Avenue, Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana.2
     Ward Bishop McCartney Sr. began military service on 14 April 1918 at Marine Barracks near Parris Island, Beaufort County, South Carolina.7 He ended military service on 12 June 1919 at Marine Barracks near Quantico, Prince William County, Virginia. Corporal McCartney, Ward B., Character - Excellent.7
     The 1920 US Census enumerated him as Ward McCartney (given age 23), the head of household at Bishop Road, Jefferson Township, Elkhart County, Indiana, in January 1920, living alone. Ward was a Farmer.8,9
     Ward Bishop McCartney Sr. married Mabel A. Juni, daughter of Christian Juni and Caroline Engler, say 1920.
     The 1930 US Census enumerated him as Ward McCartney (given age 34), the head of household at 138 Bank Street, Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana, on 8 April 1930. Also living in the household were his wife, Mabel A. McCartney (given age 34), his son, Ward B. McCartney Jr., his daughters, Betty M. McCartney (given age 9) and Priscilla McCartney (given age 5) . Ward was employed as a Mail Clerk for the United States.10
     Ward Bishop McCartney Sr. registered for the civilian draft for WW II in April 1942, while residing Elkhart, Elkhart County, Indiana. Prof. John Edwin McCartney was named as a person who would always know his address.1 Ward Bishop McCartney Sr. was employed by Railway Mail Service, District 5 - 9th Division in April 1942 at East Chicago, Lake County, Indiana.1 He was listed in the obituary of Mrs. Mabel A. McCartney (given age 80) on 12 September 1975, in the Grand Rapids Press, published at Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, as a surviving husband.11
     Ward Bishop died on 24 June 1984 at Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, at age 88.3,4
     Ward's obituary appeared on 27 June 1984, Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. As listed in the obituary, Ward was survived by, his son, Ward B. McCartney Jr., his daughters, Priscilla Johnson and Betty M. Rogers, his sister, Vera J. Poyser.11

     Vera J. died in May 1985 at age 85.1
